Privilege

PRIVILEGE. A special advantage, immunity, permission, right, or benefit granted to or enjoyed by an individual, class, or caste, held as a prerogative of status or rank, and exercised to the exclusion or even detriment of others.

I just love this definition (edited from The American Heritage Dictionary online). It gets to the heart of what drives me nuts. I was confused because I am privileged to live well, be happy, blah blah, but that doesn't drive me crazy. Of course, I want it for everyone. Different sense of "privileged". Reading this carefully-crafted definition really clarified it all.
